Fresh off their victory over the Washington “Redskins”, the agents of political correctness (PC) wasted no time celebrating their victory before finding another team to target for a name change. Just hours after the Redskins announced that they would change their team name and mascot (read about it here), an op-ed in the Washington Post revealed the next major sports team whose name must be changed. The Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball.
Titled: “The Texas Rangers’ team name must go” Karen Attiah the Post’s Global Opinion Editor laments why events from from the 1800’s and 1900’s by the law enforcement Texas Rangers make the baseball Texas Rangers a prime target for cancellation.
From the op-ed: “What we didn’t realize at the time was that the Rangers were a cruel, racist force when it came to the nonwhites who inhabited the beautiful and untamed Texas territory. The first job of the Rangers, formed in 1835 after Texas declared independence from Mexico, was to clear the land of Indian for white settlers.“
The Texas Rangers say they have no plans to change their name and that they have developed their own brand independent of the law enforcement Texas Rangers. It took the PC police years to bully the Washington Redskins into changing their name. The Baseball Texas Rangers should be aware, the agents of PC are as persistent as they are sensitive.
