Baldasaro, known in New Hampshire as an outspoken conservative, scolded the media, telling them to “get your head out of your butt and focus on the issues.”
Trump, announcing having raised at least $5.6 million for veterans charities, criticized the media for peppering him with questions about where the money was donated.“All of the money has been paid out,” Trump said. “The press should be ashamed of themselves, and on behalf of the veterans, the press should be ashamed of themselves.”
Trump briefly stepped aside and let Baldasaro speak, and the New Hampshire lawmaker did not mince words.
“I think the liberal media, you need to get your head out of your butt and focus on the real issue,” Baldasaro said.
“I’ve been involved in many fundraisers,” he said. “There are many scam artists out there. He did the right thing by vetting these groups there. You look at some of the groups that are giving 20 cents, 40 cents on the dollar.”
“Stop using veterans as political pawns,” he said. “Donald Trump is doing this from the heart. You’re all focused on the way he’s raising money and you’re not looking at the 22 veterans who are killing each other every day. You’re not concerned about the thousands of veterans who are on wait lists.”
“Look at his plan,” Baldasaro urged the media. “He talks about medical cards, he talks about the VA, he talks about competition.”
“He showed up this morning because he was upset,” Trump said
